Asia Mixed Amid Tariff Worry

Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed Tuesday as investors assessed U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff campaign.

Trump on Monday signed an order imposing 25% tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum into the U.S.

Markets in Japan were shuttered for holiday.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index lost 227.12 points, or 1.1%, to 21,294.86.

In other markets

The CSI 300 in mainland China subtracted 17.92, or 0.5% to 3,883,14

In Taiwan, the Taiex index regained 131.91 points, or 0.6%, to 23,384.05.

In Singapore, the Straits Times index doffed 14.37 points, or 0.4%, to 3,860,76

In Korea, the Kospi index recovered 17.78 points, or 0.7%, to 2,539.05.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 regrouped 41.1 points, or 0.3%, to 12,917.45

In Australia, the ASX 200 eked higher 1.22 points, or 0.01%, to 8,484
