The image of King Charles III will appear on Canada's $20 bill and its coins, the federal government in Ottawa has announced.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has directed the Bank of Canada to replace the likeness of the late Queen Elizabeth II with her heir King Charles III during the next design process.
Trudeau has also requested the Royal Canadian Mint to design coins depicting the new monarch that will go into circulation.
The reigning British monarch has appeared on Canada’s paper money and coins since the Mint began production of the country’s currency in 1908.
Canada Post has already released its first stamp featuring King Charles III, continuing a tradition that dates back more than 170 years.
Trudeau and Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon were in London on May 6 for the coronation of King Charles III.
A collection of commemorative gold and silver coins from the Royal Canadian Mint has also been issued to mark the coronation.
