Asia Trades Mixed

Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed Monday as China’s central bank held rates at a time when the yuan has come under pressure due to Beijing-Washington trade tensions.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 dropped 450.36 points, or 1.3%, to 34,279.93.

Markets in Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australian were closed for holiday.

CHINA

Mainland China’s CSI 300 rose in its last hour of trade 12.36 points, or 0.3%, to 3,784.88, after the People’s Bank of China kept its key loan prime rates unchanged at 3.10% for one-year loan maturities and 3.60% for 5-year loan maturities, in line with the expectations of economists polled by Reuters.

In other markets

In Singapore, the Straits Times Index moved forward 38.89 points, or 1.1%, to 3,759.22

In Korea, the Kospi added five points, or 0.2%, to 2,488.42

In Taiwan, the Taiex weakened 288.83 points, or 1.5%, to 19,106.20
