TSX Composite opens with loss today; shares down at market start

Investing.com - Canadian equities started with losses on Thursday. The top losers were Capped Consumer Staples, Capped Information Technology and Capped Industrials indices.

At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index fell 0.57%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap were mixed. The TSX Venture climbed 0.34%, while the Smallcap was down slightly by 0.06%.

Top Gainers:

  • Bausch Health (TSX:BHC): Climbed 10.97% or 1.02 points to 10.32.
  • Manulife Financial (TSX:MFC): Increased 6.92% or 2.93 points to 45.25.
  • B2Gold (TSX:BTO): Rose 5.42% or 0.21 points to 3.98.

Top Losers:

  • TFI Intl (TSX:TFII): Fell 11.51% or 20.89 points to 160.62.
  • BlackBerry (TSX:BB): Dropped 6.48% or 0.54 points to 7.79.
  • Celestica Inc (TSX:CLS).: Declined 5.88% or 11.02 points to 176.29.

In Commodities Trading:

  • April Brent Oil Contract climbed by 0.53% or 0.40 points to 76.44 a barrel.
  • Crude Oil for April delivery rose 0.39 points to 72.49 a barrel.
  • Gold Futures for April delivery increased by 13.09 points to 2,949.19 a troy ounce.

Currency Markets:

  • USD/CAD is down to 1.4192.
  • EUR/CAD is trading at 1.4831.
