Apple Unveils Cheaper, More Powerful MacBook Air Computer

Apple (AAPL) has launched a new line of MacBook Air computers that contain a more powerful M4 processor and upgraded camera but cost $100 U.S. less than previous models.

The MacBook Air is Apple’s bestselling laptop computer and one of the company’s most important products, according to analysts.

Mac computer sales rose 15% in the final quarter of 2024, totaling $9 billion U.S. worldwide.

The cheaper price should spur further demand for the MacBook Air and comes despite new U.S. import tariffs that are expected to eventually raise prices for consumer electronics.

For now, Apple’s new 13-inch MacBook Air has a starting price of $999 U.S., and the larger 15-inch model costs $1,099 U.S.

The newest MacBook Air also comes in a sky-blue colour and can support multiple external monitors. The more affordable MacBook Air laptops go on sale March 12 of this year.

The MacBook Air is the latest in a series of new products released by Apple in recent weeks.

The consumer electronics company has also announced a high-end Mac Studio desktop computer with a microchip that can run advanced artificial intelligence (A.I.) models.

And, Apple has unveiled an upgraded its iPad Air tablet and announced a low-cost iPhone 16e smartphone.

The stock of Apple has gained 39% over the last 12 months to trade at $235.74 U.S. per share.
