Consumer electronics giant Apple (AAPL) has begun shipping servers used for artificial intelligence (A.I.) applications that were made at a factory in Houston, Texas.
The A.I. servers are part of Apple’s commitment to spend $600 billion U.S. within America, appeasing U.S. President Donald Trump who has called for the company to boost its domestic manufacturing.
Apple said the servers will power the company’s A.I. and cloud computing services. Apple is using its own silicon in the A.I. servers.
The Houston, Texas factory is on track to create thousands of new jobs in the state, Apple said. The Apple servers were previously manufactured overseas.
In August, Apple updated its U.S. spending plans under what it calls the “American Manufacturing Program.”
In response, the Trump administration has cancelled tariffs that could have hurt Apple, which manufactures and imports most of its computers and smartphones in China and India.
AAPL stock has risen 7% this year to trade at $259.58 U.S. per share.
